            "A life lived in GRATITUDE will fertilize a breeding ground of love and contentment while starving the weeds of fear and envy."



One of the bajillion things that #gratitude gifts us with is a sense of fulfillment and confidence which eliminates the tendency to be jealous of the successes of others. 

When we are walking our own path and consistently doing the best that we can, there is no room for that kind of envy. There is room for us ALL to shine, and we can give each other wholehearted high fives while rooting each other on!



Envy is the lovechild of unfulfillment and insecurity, which all boils down to living in a fear-based mindset.



GRATITUDE allows us to live with LOVE which then gifts us with a sense of confidence and contentment. The success of others has nothing whatsoever to do with YOUR path and is not a threat to your personal victories. 



We can live with love by fostering our GRATITUDE practice and find fulfillment within rather than be jealous of others.



I was sent this wonderful quote today by one of my Moderators in my FB community, "Attitude of GRATITUDE with Chronic Pain," and it sums it up just perfectly.



"Insecure and unfulfilled people cannot help but be jealous. Only inner security and individual fulfillment as a person will reduce jealousy until, one day, it disappears. It will be replaced by a calm confidence, a steady happiness, a strong resilience, and an interesting, beautiful life. If we keep our eyes on our own path in life, we will lose the egotistical pride which frequently accompanies success and also makes us vulnerable to a fall. When things go well, we will be GRATEFUL. When they do not, we will be patient. We will accept success with ease and perspective and failure with tolerance.”

She hit the nail on the head. It is insecure and unfulfilled peeps who live with fear and cannot see past their egos to find love in their hearts for each other. When we are truly practicing and living in GRATITUDE, we recognize that there is no room for envy in our hearts and we lift each other towards the light in nothing but genuine love.

            "GRATITUDE gifts us with the awareness that the sun always exists behind the clouds-waiting to shine down upon us once again after the storm has passed."



I shared this statement in my nightly goodnight post in my FB community last week after a member shared that her days are always the same and it can be challenging to find #gratitude while living with #chronicpain.



And she's right. While I am a self-proclaimed #gratitudeaddict, life is NOT always rainbows and butterflies. It requires very intentional and regular practice put in place to find the sun through the clouds. Life can feel so dark....because life is HARD!



But what happens with a regular GRATITUDE practice is that it begins to help offset our natural tendency towards negativity and at least gifts us with the awareness that the sun is there....just waiting to peek out from behind those clouds. While we may not see the sunshine today, GRATITUDE gives us hope to push forward, knowing that it will be there once again.



Because without hope....what's the point?

            One thing I have learned over the years through my work with those living with #chronicpain & #chronicillness is that once we begin speaking to ourselves and to others by using the language of #gratitude , there is a noticeable shift in our personal narrative as well as a bridge between our connections that transcends all barriers.



By becoming fluent in GRATITUDE, we weave a tapestry of hope and take agency over our happiness by kicking our pain over to the passenger side and grabbing hold of the wheel once again. Focusing on the blessings that surround us can dilute our struggles and help us to love our lives more than we hate our pain.



But it isn't easy-not by a longshot. 



It requires daily upkeep through a regular GRATITUDE practice, and it sure does help to take up residency in a climate where others also speak fluent GRATITUDE and decide to walk the path of emotional healing rather than wallowing in their misery.



The 'secret sauce' to a life of joy and purpose while dealing with life's struggles can be found by combining the ingredients of GRATITUDE and #connection. My community "Attitude of GRATITUDE with Chronic Pain" on Facebook holds the recipe to this secret sauce, as we utilize these ingredients in order to find strength through our struggles and triumph through our trials.

            Nourish joy and hope in your life by feeding yourself GRATITUDE.  It starves a victim mentality and fattens a positive outlook…allowing us to walk forward with optimism and confidence!

            In the past, I have been asked what I feel my "love language" is. This is based on a popular book by Gary Chapman called, "The 5 Love Languages", and it is essentially a way to better find what makes you and your partner better able to communicate with each other based on what "love language" speaks to them the most.



I am also asked a lot about what religion I practice. While raised Catholic, I do not consider myself to be a religious person, per se, but I AM deeply spiritual. I believe in aspects of all religions, and I take a bit from each one to act as my spiritual compass to guide me through my life.



I have come to realize through years in recovery from both alcoholism and from the emotional debilitation due to chronic pain and illness that my primary "religion" and "love language" is actually GRATITUDE! 



Every intentional act, decision, and reaction that I make revolves around my level of appreciation for what I have in that very moment. When I am off the beam and not aware of my blessings, I do not feel very spiritually fit...and my level of self-love begins to wane.



I actually refer to this as being "GRATITUDINALLY FIT!"



When I am fully aware of all that I am and all that I have...moment by moment...I am able to live my life with love, hope, and purpose with each breath. This only comes through regularly practicing GRATITUDE, and when whatever practice I am using daily begins to get stale....I change it up to get myself back on the beam.



It is through feelings of lack and want that my decisions are compromised, my feelings of self-love weaken, and hope begins to lessen. Being GRATITUDINALLY FIT quickly strengthens all of these things, and my north star comes back into sight and shines brightly!
