chronic pain anonymous
When I was away at
rehab summer camp at Silver Hill Hospital, I was introduced to Chronic Pain Anonymous…..I didn’t even know there was such a thing! We had meetings once a week and I really liked them! I thought it would be just a bunch of people in pain bitching about their problems, but it’s far from it. It’s a group that is based on the 12-Step model and applies it to living with chronic pain & illness in order to ‘recover’ from the emotional effects of chronic pain/illness/disability. It’s actually uplifting! It focused on living in the solution and not the problem and I was ALL OVER that! When I got out of rehab “Mommy’s special summer camp” I looked for a meeting here at home and there was none. So when I was feeling up to it, I started one here in NJ. We meet once a week and it’s just the soul food I need to get me through my week. Besides face to face meetings there are also phone, video chat, and online meetings for folks who can’t leave the house or don’t have a meeting by them. You can look for the meeting schedule here: http://www.chronicpainanonymous.org/find-meetings/. These meetings are so helpful for me in finding gratitude while living with chronic pain. What a blessing!
