‘Black Ducks’ are something we talk about a lot in my group “Attitude of Gratitude with Chronic Pain” and something I learned from Dr. Bruce Singer when I was a patient at Silver Hill Hospital in their chronic pain program.
The gist of it is ‘black ducks’ are those times in your life where you actually forget about your pain…even just briefly. Maybe you don’t think there are times you forget…but there are. Try it!
- your fave song comes on the radio
- laughing with a friend
- watching a favorite tv show
- partaking in your favorite hobby
- ICE CREAM!!!!
Before I brutalize the theory, I’ll let you hear it from the man himself.

You can also check out my interview with him for AoG below (with my roomie from Silver Hill & co-admin Jackie):
I consider him my mentor. If you read my story, he was my “teacher” when I was at Silver Hill for the chronic pain program/rehab and I have him to thank for showing me to regain my life PLUS have a better one. All while LIVING WITH CHRONIC PAIN.
Watch our interview with him HERE! (please bear with the bad quality in the beginning…it’s worth it!)
